About this class

Sunday, January 17, 2027 · 11 am to 1:30 pm

Create a practical work of art you'll love to wear! In this 2.5-hour workshop, you'll design and bead your own glasses chain, choosing colors, shapes and charms that feel like you. It's a lovely, slow way to spend a winter morning at the studio, and you'll leave wearing something you made.

Your host is Kylie Slavek, a Licensed Professional Counselor and 200-hour Certified Yoga Teacher. Kylie leads creative workshops with an element of mental health and spiritual wellness, weaving in inspired discussion and reflection prompts that help you connect more deeply with yourself and others.

In the spirit of this craft (glasses, and seeing more clearly), we'll reflect on truthfulness within ourselves and with others, known as Satya, and on kindness or non-harming, known as Ahimsa. These are the first two ethical principles of yoga in Indian philosophy.

  • About 2.5 hours
  • All materials included
  • Beginner friendly, no beading experience needed
  • Optional: bring a journal for personal reflection or note taking
  • Limited to 12 people

Good to know

Where is the studio, and where do I park?

2822 E 17th Ave, Denver, right across from City Park. There's street parking out front on 17th Ave and on Detroit St and Fillmore St. RTD Bus Route 20 stops at 17th Ave and Fillmore St, right across the street.

Is this a formal art class?

Unless the description says so, no. Creative Social and Slow Studio are relaxed, low-pressure and designed for connection and creativity rather than instruction. You'll have the chance to build new skills with the instructional materials, but it's a self-guided creative space. Workshops are more focused, often led by Matty or a guest instructor, and dive deeper into one technique or medium.

Do I need art experience?

Not at all. Classes and Creative Gatherings are designed for a range of skill levels, from beginners and people who "aren't creative" or "haven't made anything since they were a kid" to seasoned artists who just want to be around other makers. Each kit comes with brief, self-guided instructions to get you started. You can follow along or do your own thing.

Can I come alone?

Absolutely. Many guests come solo, settle in, and get into the creative zone. You can chat and make a new friend or just do your own thing.

Can I bring friends?

Yes! When you sign up, choose how many people are coming (up to 6) and add a name and kit for each person. For a bigger group, a birthday or a team event, see private group events.

What's included, and can I bring my own materials?

All materials for the kit you choose are provided. You'll also have our Art Library of inspiring and instructional books, and a selection of hot teas. You're welcome to bring reference images, inspiration books, a sketchbook, extra paper and your own brushes. To keep the evening focused, we don't allow outside projects. To work on your own project, book a private lesson or join the Adult Art Club waitlist.

What if I can't make it?

Tickets can't be refunded, but we're happy to give you credit toward a future event, move you to another date, or transfer your spot to someone else. Email matty@mattymiller.com before your class.

Is the space accessible?

There's an accessible entrance at the back of the studio, but this older building doesn't have an ADA-compliant restroom yet. If you have questions about getting around the space, email matty@mattymiller.com and we'll be happy to help.
